2012–2013: The Gstaad Festival Orchestra on concert tour

The Gstaad Festival Orchestra is not only a fantastic attraction for visitors at the Menuhin Festival: it is also an eloquent representative of the Saanenland region abroad, a symbol of excellence, innovation and openness. In its two years of existence it already has earned a reputation that opens the doors to the most prestigious concert halls and events and draws the interest of outstanding international soloists. From Paris to Munich, from La Chaise-Dieu to Vienna, it is regarded as a “sure bet” by the public and the press alike.

The Gstaad Festival Orchestra did not need a great deal of time to earn an international reputation and establish its identity. Its second season, under the direction of Kristjan Järvi, was truly a display of fireworks marked by two exceptional programmes in the heart of the Alps: the first was in collaboration with the great Renée Fleming based on a New York extravaganza, the second was realized together with the electrifying percussionist Martin Grubinger and the fascinating violinist Renaud Capuçon. This season will conclude in January 2012 with concerts in Vaduz and Munich before preparations already begin for its “opus III” which promises to be… even more dazzling! On the horizon is a “gigantic” programme with “Carmina Burana” and Holst’s “Planets” (which will be performed in Merano in South Tyrol before in Gstaad). And Kristjan Järvi will be sharing the baton with David Zinman, a conductor who is truly a living legend, for a Dvorak-only concert together with soloist Truls Mørk. The two conductors already are scheduled to conduct projects with the orchestra in 2013 and 2014.
