7.30 pm, Rougemont Church

Rougemont – Zweisimmen – Vers-l'Eglise: three churches esteemed by the Menuhin Festival, three perfect locations for one of the exceptional events at this year’s festival: Beethoven’s complete ten sonatas for violin and piano performed by the duo of Isabelle Faust and Alexander Melnikov (who immortalized these pieces to great success for harmonia mundi in 2009). The first leg: the first three sonatas (opus 12), which are marked by a limpid classicism that is reminiscent of Mozart, as well as the monumental “Kreutzer” sonata of 1803, a truly original and revolutionary work.
