1789: a year that first evokes the French Revolution. But in Vienna too, even if it is not a direct consequence of the events in Paris – communication was not as instantaneous as it is today! – the artistic world was on the move, laying the foundations for what would lead to the advent of Romanticism. Imagined by pianist Sebastian Knauer (who has just released an album entitled “Vienna 1789”) and “artist in residence” Andreas Ottensamer, and carried by the young budding conductors of the Gstaad Conducting Academy, this 100% classical programme is an ideal testimony to the “quivering” that was then taking a grip on musical Europe, with works written between 1788 (for Mozart's “Jupiter” Symphony) and 1794 (for Beethoven's 2nd Piano Concerto).
