Christina Pluhar has long been interested in the vocal music of the 17th century, this time she presents sacred songs and cantatas by German composers. At the heart of this new “celestial” programme, perfectly combining the timbres of soprano Céline Scheen and star countertenor Philippe Jaroussky to the rich palette of colours of L'Arpeggiata, lies the aria for alto and string ensemble Ach, dass ich Wassers gnug hätte by Jean-Christophe Bach, a first cousin of Johann Sebastian's father. This is an opportunity to revisit pages by famous composers such as Heinrich Schütz, but also to listen to much rarer works by Philipp Heinrich Erlebach, Christian Ritter and Crato Bütner, which highlight the important tribute paid by German composers to the great Italian models.
