The musicians of the Gstaad Festival Orchestra are bringing their rich summer season to a close with a semi-staged version of Tosca. Sharing the stage with the greatest voices of the moment – Sony Yoncheva's “Vissi d'arte” and Riccardo Massi's “E lucevan le stelle” are a thrill in themselves! – here they will face one of the most breathtaking dramas in the history of opera, under the expert direction of Domingo Hindoyan: the tragic romance between a prominent singer and an idealistic painter caught up in the whirlwinds of History – the short-lived Roman Republic set up by the fiery Bonaparte against the backdrop of the Revolution. Fasten your seatbelts … and get your handkerchiefs out! We are particularly delighted to welcome back the Uruguayan baritone Erwin Schrott. Like no other, the frequent guest of our Festival embodies the role of Scarpia, which seems tailor-made for him. On stages worldwide, Erwin Schrott is currently regarded as one of the leading interpreters of this character.
